Sunny Braid Finished

» by julie April 4th, 2009 at 8:29 pm » Comments (0)

I challenged myself to finish my braid quilt in time for the SCVQA quilt show. I knew that I would put off quilting this one if I didn’t have a deadline. The quilt show seemed like the perfect opportunity to give me that deadline. I thought the quilt lent itself to a fairly easy choice [...]

Theo’s Light Bright quilt

» by julie February 7th, 2009 at 7:12 pm » Comments (0)

This quilt went together very quickly. I created all the points of color by sewing full strips of each color together alternating them with black strips. Once they were all sewn together, I then cut them into the rows for all the borders.
I had to do a little bit of un-sewing to get the lengths [...]

Dyeing fabric for Theo’s Quilt

» by julie February 5th, 2009 at 6:11 pm » Comments (0)

Now that I have solved my water temperature issues, I have started dyeing fabric for my latest quilt. It is a rainbow colored baby quilt.
It would be better if it was a little warmer. Since the studio is separate from the house, I hate to spend money to heat an empty room with fabric sitting [...]

Last Minute Holiday Projects

» by julie December 28th, 2008 at 11:56 pm » Comments (0)

Due to a mis-communication I created a last minute Christmas quilt this year. December 13th we determined that we wanted to make a quilt for my sil. I thought we had ruled out the quilt for this year in favor of another gift, but it turns out I was mistaken and this was the year [...]

Finally got a picture of the in progress braided Quilt. It is now all pieced. I am pretty pleased with how it is shaping up. I am still trying to decide what material I will use for the backing and my quilting design. I also had some leftover fabric from the quilt that I decided [...]

Mom’s quilt is looking good

» by julie October 22nd, 2008 at 3:49 am » Comments (0)

We pushed pretty hard the last 10 days to get Mom’s quilt top mostly completed before she left. She has a little bit to go, but it is really looking great. I am a little behind mom, so I will have to play catch-up. Mom used commercial fabrics in yellows, greens and blues. She is [...]

The quilt is taking shape

Mom and I are making steady progress on our quilts. I don’t think I mentioned that we are making a French Braid quilt from the book French Braid Quilts by Jane Miller.
Mom decided that she wanted a very structured pattern for her braids so she is going to start her braids with the same color [...]

Doggie quilt

» by julie June 30th, 2008 at 1:00 pm » Comments (0)

Our Bernina group got together to make a quilt for a fire victim. One group member found the doggie paper pieced pattern. She also put together kits for everyone with all of the fabric pieces rough cut to the correct size. This was a fun day of conversation and sewing. I think all the [...]

More Charity Quilts

One of the local hospitals is in need of preemie quilts. They are looking for flannel quilts 3-4 feet in size with no batting. Our Bernina club decided to get together one evening last month and see how many quilts we could put together.
I had some small pieces of left over flannel from the quilts [...]

Robbi came to speak at our quilt guild last month and to teach her Free Expression Buffet class. We got to see a history of her I wanted to take her class because I heard her classes are fun and I already had all of the supplies I needed for the class.
