Last week I had decided to start paring down my class supplies. I haven’t taught classes in a couple of years and I am not using my duplicates. This created some free space to help organize what is left.

Back in March I started a spring cleaning project on the Studio. I am happy to say that for now, it is in acceptable shape. My friend Linda came over today to go shopping in my excess supplies. I am not sure if it was pity or insanity, but she started putting things away. We spent several hours this afternoon working on the wet side of the room and it is looking good. I have a couple of shelves to hang and the closet to pick up. But it is in a usable state.

Sometimes trying to be careful is not in my best interest. I mailed the honey jar labels to my sil for her wedding. That way she could get a start on putting the labels on the jars before I arrived. I decided that the place setting cards and table numbers where too important to mail and I would hand carry them.

That was a big mistake. Unfortunately, I put them in my planner. On my first airline flight of the day I put my planner in the seat pocket in front of me……

One should never put things in the seat pocket. You forget about them. Yep I forgot about it. I got to my in-laws house without my planner and without the table numbers and place setting cards.

Luckly I had my computer with me that had the electronic files. This would give me the basic design. I wouldn’t be able to embellish them the same as the originals, but only the bride and I would know that. Today was the day to go to the only craft stores within a two hour drive, Walmart and Ben Franklins. I was able to purchase a cardstock, cutting mat, metal ruler and craft knife to print and cut the table number cards. Now what to do about the place setting cards.

Originally they were to be a tag that we attached to the honey jars with a ribbon. This would allow us room to hand write each name on the tags. Now that the wedding was just days away and the seating chart finalized we could redesign the cards to attach to the top of the jar. The small circle didn’t allow enough space to hand write names, but was perfect for computer generated text. Walmart provided me with yet another pair of one of my favorite detail cutting scissors (Fiskers #5 Microtip scissors). I spent the next day carefully cutting each circle out by hand. This would not have bothered me so much if I didn’t have the perfect punch sitting at home that I had searched all over for, for this very purpose. It was put in the punch drawer when we decided that it wouldn’t be big enough for the labels. Live and learn.

Alls well that ends well. The labels turned out great. Everyone loved them and the bride was happy.

This week was a very busy week in the studio. I finished putting the border on the heart quilt and presented it to our friend. I am happy to say that it was very well received.

I also volunteered to do a demo at club last Saturday. I have something I call a thread catcher that I enjoy making. There are many commercial versions available, but I like mine because it holds a paper lunch sack. That makes it very easy to empty and keeps the fabric nice and clean. I updated my instructions for how I am currently making. Them I made 3 samples each finished to a different stage, so that they wouldn’t have to watch me complete every step entirely. Watching someone sew multiple seams is never that much fun. I had fun and the project was well received.

I also finished the last of the Wedding pieces. I made table numbers and Place Cards. I will have to talk a new picture of all of the pieces.

My last project for the week was a purse for my sister-in-law. When friends or family get married I put together an emergency kit of things the bridal party might need for the day. Each time I put one together I make a bag or container to put everything in. This time I made a reversible purse. The wedding colors are green and yellow, so one side is green fabrics and the other side are yellow fabrics. I created a polymer clay button to act as a weight on the purse flap.

Today’s was Beverly’s first ever store wide customer appreciation sale. Everything in the store was 40% off from 5-9 pm. One brave individual showed up at 3pm to be the first person in the store. By 4:30 there were about 100 people lined up to get inside. Store staff were busy making the store ready for the mob of mostly woman. To keep them happy they were passing out cake and cookies to the growing crowd. Once the doors were open, people filed in rather orderly. The scrapbooking isle was quickly cleared as well as the strands of beads. By 6pm, the checkout line had ballooned to over an hour long and stayed that way all night long.

Store management did a nice job of trying to plan for the crowds. They planned a little game of numbers on the floor. They would call out to everyone to get on and number and everyone would scramble. If they called your number, you got to pick a prize. This certainly helped bide the time while standing in line.

I don’t think they had any idea how many people would show up for 40% their entire purchase.

I was honored to be asked to make the invitations for my sister-in-law’s upcoming wedding. After several discussions about what style she was looking for, we settled on a simple floral white on white theme. The invitations consist of a small flower punched from an iridescent white paper with a copper center. These flowers are glued onto the front of the cards to give a 3d effect. For the Save the Date cards, I created a small magnet with the same design that was attached to the card fronts. When the Magnet is removed the card still looks complete.
