Sunny Braid Finished

» by julie April 4th, 2009 at 8:29 pm » Comments (0)

I challenged myself to finish my braid quilt in time for the SCVQA quilt show. I knew that I would put off quilting this one if I didn’t have a deadline. The quilt show seemed like the perfect opportunity to give me that deadline. I thought the quilt lent itself to a fairly easy choice [...]

Dyeing fabric for Theo’s Quilt

» by julie February 5th, 2009 at 6:11 pm » Comments (0)

Now that I have solved my water temperature issues, I have started dyeing fabric for my latest quilt. It is a rainbow colored baby quilt.
It would be better if it was a little warmer. Since the studio is separate from the house, I hate to spend money to heat an empty room with fabric sitting [...]

Due to a mis-communication I created a last minute Christmas quilt this year. December 13th we determined that we wanted to make a quilt for my sil. I thought we had ruled out the quilt for this year in favor of another gift, but it turns out I was mistaken and this was the year [...]

Mom and I are making steady progress on our quilts. I don’t think I mentioned that we are making a French Braid quilt from the book French Braid Quilts by Jane Miller.
Mom decided that she wanted a very structured pattern for her braids so she is going to start her braids with the same color [...]

Playing with Colors

» by julie October 3rd, 2008 at 12:06 am » Comments (0)

Today is when the fun starts. I laid out of the fabric and started to add and remove pieces until I found the combination that I liked. I decided on 14 colors to expand my quilt to queen size. In playing with the fabric I also decided that I didn’t like the gray fabric at [...]

Day 2 of Dyeing

» by julie October 2nd, 2008 at 11:54 pm » Comments (0)

I was pretty happy with yesterday’s dye run. A couple of the shades were a little close together so I wanted to dye a couple of extra colors. I decided to dye 2 shades lighter green and 3 shades of darker green. I also decided to dye a couple of pieces of fabric the same [...]

Another Dye Day

» by julie October 1st, 2008 at 11:40 pm » Comments (0)

Mom is coming to visit so I signed us both up for a quilting class to have a little fun. I should have looked more closely at the sample before signing up. It is almost a queen size quilt. A little bigger project than what I wanted. Oh well, I hear it is supposed to [...]

Productive Week

» by julie March 24th, 2008 at 9:46 am » Comments (0)

Last week was a productive week for projects. On Sunday we had an Easter dinner for some of our friends. We needed to have room to seat 11 people. Our dining room table seats 4. This proved to be a small problem. A six foot banquet table and 3 sheets of plywood, joined together [...]

First Sale of Fabric

» by julie February 16th, 2008 at 10:53 pm » Comments (0)

This is just a sampling of the dye run that I did this week. I was asked to create several fabrics for a fall themed project. The person wanted a collection of gold and brown fabrics. I think fall colors include golds and browns, but also burgundies, oranges and purples. I was very happy with [...]
