Office triptych

I was commissioned by Bill to create a triptych for his office. Actually it started out as a single panel, but as the discussion progressed it turned into a triptych with a single color connecting the panels visually.

I used OmniGraffle to size the photographs and create the bordering blocks. It actually worked very nicely to plan the project out in advance. I am not a very spontaneous quilter. I really like to know what I am going to get in the end. Using OmniGraffle I was able to plan out my piecing to make the piecing easier as well as play with the sizes of the blocks surrounding the pictures to get a pleasing arrangement.

Once I had the sizes nailed down I played with color. I based the colors of the quilt on the colors within the photos. Using the software I made several versions of the quilt in different color ways to see which one I liked best.

Bill provided all of the photos. I cropped them to best highlight the subject and to create varied picture sizes. I was also able to incorporate his interest in ham radio by including a message in the border in morse code. The panels represent his work, family and hobbies.

First Sale of Fabric

This is just a sampling of the dye run that I did this week. I was asked to create several fabrics for a fall themed project. The person wanted a collection of gold and brown fabrics. I think fall colors include golds and browns, but also burgundies, oranges and purples. I was very happy with the colors I got and texture of the colors. The client was pleased with the colors as well and ended up purchasing a few extras.

First Commission Complete

Today I completed my first commission. It was for 2 flannel rag edge quilts using my hand-dyed flannel and photos of the cheerleaders. I am very please with how the quilts turned out. I hope the recipients are as happy with them as I am. I pushed to get them done so that dh could hand deliver them. I hated to put them in the hands of UPS.

I have been in discussions with a co-worker of my husband. She saw a flannel photo quilt throw that I had created for someone else and I have spent the last couple of weeks narrowing down what she was looking for. She would like 2 quilts for the cheer leading squad to give their coaches at the year end banquet. I am so excited.

Invitations

I have been working on a set of invitations for my sister-in-laws wedding this summer. She wanted something very simple. So far the reactions to the Save the date cards have been positive. I have finished the Invitations and the Response Cards and got them in the mail this week. My SIL has been a delight to work with on this project.
